The Prior’s Flour milled at Fosters Mill, Swaffham Prior, Cambridgeshire
The Prior’s Flour comprises a delicious range of stoneground organic flours milled by wind power at Fosters Mill, Swaffham Prior. The mill was built by local millwrights, Fysons of Soham in 1857, on the site of an earlier post mill. A tower mill made of brick and local clunch (a kind of chalk), the mill has four floors and contains two pairs of French Bur stones and flour dressing equipment. The Foster family worked the mill until 1946 as a grist mill along with its sister mill which stands some 200 yards away. It was then ‘mothballed’, before being rescued in 1970 and returned to working order in 1991.
Jonathan Cook, the current owner, supplies trade and retail customers across the UK through direct local delivery, palletised loads and mail order. More information on the Prior’s Flour product range and the mill can be found on our website (see below).
